|After Mavis' death in 1997, John devoted a considerable amount of time
to writing his memoirs, some of which show a remarkable level of detail.
There are two main autobiographical works. "The
Ecclesiastical History of a Sceptical Soul" is the story of a religious
journey from strict 1920's Congregationalism to priesthood in the Anglican
Church. Meanwhile "Funny Old World"
is the title that John chose for a more formal collection of reminiscences,
which he may have intended for wider distribution.
Various other documents that do not form part of either of these main
collections are included separately. There is some duplication of material,
but they are included for completeness.
